What to do after a car accident

This checklist is general information only. For emergencies, call 911. Accident Review Center is not a law firm and does not provide legal, medical, or insurance advice.

1. Safety first

  • Move to a safe area if you can.
  • Call 911 for injuries, danger, blocked traffic, or serious damage.
  • Do not leave the scene until it is appropriate to do so.

2. Get medical attention

  • Ask for help if you feel pain, dizziness, numbness, or confusion.
  • Some injuries show up later. Consider a medical evaluation if symptoms develop.
  • Keep discharge papers and visit summaries.

3. Document the scene

  • Take photos of vehicles, plates, road conditions, signals, and visible injuries.
  • Save witness names and phone numbers.
  • Write down the time, location, weather, and what happened while fresh.

4. Exchange information

  • Driver names, phone numbers, addresses, and insurance details.
  • Vehicle make/model and license plate numbers.
  • Police report number if one is created.

5. Be careful with statements

  • Stick to facts. Avoid guessing about fault or injuries.
  • Do not sign forms you do not understand.
  • Keep copies of texts, emails, repair estimates, and bills.

6. Request a free review

  • If you were hurt and want follow-up, scan the QR code.
  • You choose whether to submit your own request.
  • No obligation and no result is promised.
For partner staff: A safe thing to say is, “If you were hurt and want a free review, you can scan this and submit your own request.” Do not give legal advice, recommend a specific attorney, promise compensation, or fill out the form for the customer.
